another concept painting

I recently learned about rendering in black and white, then later adding color, so I did just that. I started with the black and white rendering.
Then I added a hue saturation layer, and gave the piece a sepia tone.
I need to do more value pieces like these, because value is a lot more important than color.
Paintings like these are merely considered refined sketches. I could go in and refine the piece, but we both know that's not gonna happen

third concept painting

This painting didn't end up being as dramatic as I wanted it to be, but i'm still pretty happy with it. Right now, I feel like i'm not confident with my brushstrokes. And I feel like my trees could use some improvement.
Because my college schedule is very intensive, I don't get enough time to do personal stuff like these. So this summer, I'll challenge myself into doing at least 100 concept paintings. That would be one painting almost everyday. I feel like after 100 paintings, I will be much better at digital concept painting.  This will not be easy.

the shading, especially on the platform on which the lamp is standing on is inaccurate, but I really don't care. It's only a sketch.

This painting came out of nowhere. After painting this one, I messed with many different layer adjustments and effects just fur fun. Personally, I like the original color scheme best, but C seems to look more naturalistic in terms of color.
still practicing.

second shot at digital concept painting

As a beginner with photoshop, I feel pretty happy with my progress so far. I still feel like I have a lot to learn, so my plan is to keep painting as much as possible in order to gain experience. Once again, I was greatly inspired by concept artist Feng Zhu's Tutorials. usually, he does paintings like these in less than 2 hours, but it obviously took me more time. I included the black and white version so you can see what the the pure values look like.

With this painting, I cut of both stone lion heads, opened them on a new page, added more details, then pasted them back onto the original painting. That's why they have the most detail.

For those of you who are anxious to see my traditional stuff, don't worry. I will upload some life oil portraits from my painting class pretty soon.
(This is just the beginning of my photoshop journey!)

first shot at concept painting

Since I recently got a new Wacom pen for my tablet, I decided to try some concept painting. This painting was inspired by a series of tutorials by Feng Zhu. His tutorials can be found here. I have learned a lot from him. I am personally happy with how much progress I've made with photoshop and digitall painting in general. I seem to actually know what I'm doing now. Hopefully, I won't end up losing my traditional skills and end up being a "photoshop ho". Judging from my painting , I still have a lot to learn, and i will be updating my journey on here every now and then.
I will still be updating my traditional stuff too.
