These are a few plein Air sketches I painted back when I was in university. They were all done with acrylic paint.

This video shows my usual process when painting portraits in Photoshop. I usually start with a rough sketch in black and white, and slowly add color using a series of overlay and multiply layers. This video is a bit shorter than my previous ones since I'm not narrating the video. I plan on uploading tutorials with my commentary sometime in the near future.

Take a journey into my portrait painting process in Photoshop. It shows how I start with a rough sketch, refine the line drawing, then I move into the coloring phase, and I finalize the painting with some last minute details.

explaining my thought process, but I don't have the adequate equipment
for that yet

Revenge (WIP/process)

Here's some progress on a piece I'm currently working on. It began as a tiny thumbnail. I then enlarged the thumbnail onto a larger canvas and started painting, working from the bigger shapes to the smaller ones. Honestly, I may never finish this piece; but If i so decide to finish it, I'll make sure the final product remains readable when reduced to a thumbnail size. I'm saying this because I feel like the values are starting to get muddy, and I'm losing that strong silhouette I once had in the initial thumbnail sketch.

1. The initial sketch. This began on a recycled old painting which already had the colors I was looking for. In this stage, I was trying to capture the overall essence of the piece.
2. The line drawing. This was done over the initial sketch. You know what they say, behind every great painting, lies a great drawing.
3. The line drawing was then placed on top of the initial sketch.
4. I began to paint under the line drawing, trying to separate values, and distinguish the different items in the painting.
5. I Finally rendered on top of the line drawing to a more finished state.

These took roughly 3.5hours

These are all self portraits from observation. I did these over the span of a week after being heavily inspired by figurative artists like Scott Burdick, Morgan Weistling, and Ron Lemen. These each took at most 3 hours to complete.

These  studies were done in acrylic. I intend on doing a lot more of this in the future. These took approximately 3-4hrs to complete.

Mythology themed Sketches

First, I made a spitpaint of medusa's death. 

With a similar color scheme in mind, I later used "Medusa's Death" as a starting point (canvas) for the cyclops who went on a rampage shortly after losing his sheep.

 Later, I had an idea completely with a color scheme completely different from the previous two.

These were all 30 mins. I'm really tempted to push some these sketches further.

Desert Sketch Series

A while ago, I did a few desert themed spitpaints. Here they are. At this time, I discovered the ability to soften edges when using the lasso tool. 

Christmas Card

For one of my final exams, we have to make a Christmas card. So I decided to make a card with an illustration that has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas. I'm thinking of changing the dimensions of the card because that tangency between the edge of the house and the gutter is bothering me.

Once again, I come with more daily speedpaints. I'd like to think I've generally gotten better at composition, shaping, color, and all that good stuff, but it's much to soon to expect anything. The practicing never stops.
These were all 30 mins. 

This is an idea of what my process usually looks like when painting in photoshop. I usually start with basic general shapes in black and white. Then I gradually make things more detailed while bringing color into the picture.
